I finished my 17th week of running since I started training. I finally feel like I am getting back to my pre-holiday shape. Today was a second 3.2 mile around Astoria Park without breaks and I felt pretty good. I got tired after the first lap, but I was able to rest a bit during the downhill portion of the second 1.6 lap and finished without a problem. I felt a little bit of discomfort in my right shin again. Will try to run with the knee brace next time, and see if that makes a difference. I feel pumped for the busy week ahead.
This was a busy running week. After the Friday 3 mile run in the rain I struggled to put in 2.5 miles on Saturday. It was extremely humid and after 5th 1/4 mile lap, I had to stop and walk it off. Walked for 1 lap and ran 2 more. Not fun. Sunday was different. The conditions were not that much better with temperature at 26 (c) and humidity 68%. I started feeling ok, but quickly gor tired and by the fifth lap I had a similar desire to stop.
But this time I did not and pushed on. Turns out by the 7th lap, I have stabilized and after finishing 8 laps (2 miles), I decided to go for another 4. So I was able to cover 3 miles in fairly crappy weather, which feels pretty good (after the fact). Today was the first time I measured my pace. Its 11:42 min / mile on average. Better than I thought.
This week I put in 10.5 miles in total, a personal record. Sweet.
Friday was the first 3 mile run since June 14. I like running though the cool autumn air. The temperature was 17 (C) and humidity 43% and despite my allergies I managed more or less ok. At the beginning I was not sure I was going to make the entire 3 miles, but by the 8th lap I decided it was possible, and it turns out it was (coincidence?). After the 4th lap I felt slight discomfort in my right knee, changed my strike a bit, and by the end of the run it felt fine. Will try again on Saturday. Fawkin’ Aye!
