This was a three day 9.2 mile running week even though I planned to run four days.  The good news is that I set a personal record on Sunday - 9:39 minute mile during a 5K run.  To get to a four day running week, I will have to run one morning before work.  Speaking of which I was able to get up between 5am and 5:30am five days in a row. It’s getting easier, but it will take me a while to completely change my sleep cycle.  The biggest obstacle is that during the weekend I revert back to going to sleep after 12.  That will have to change too.

Running, Week 17

I finished my 17th week of running since I started training.  I finally feel like I am getting back to my pre-holiday shape.  Today was a second 3.2 mile around Astoria Park without breaks and I felt pretty good.  I got tired after the first lap, but I was able to rest a bit during the downhill portion of the second 1.6 lap and finished without a problem. I felt a little bit of discomfort in my right shin again.  Will try to run with the knee brace next time, and see if that makes a difference.  I feel pumped for the busy week ahead.

Finally had a nice 3.2 mile run around Astoria part without taking any breaks.  Feels good.  I am excited to get back to my 4 times per week running schedule.

This is the 16th week of running and I am picking up the pace, albeit slowly and painfully.  My legs are burning, my lungs are hurting, and I feel like I am 20lb heavier.   I know thats not quite true, but I must work on my holiday routine, so it does not knock me out of shape again.  I went running three times this week, twice in a gym and once outside for the total of 8 miles.

End of the 5th Week of running.  Ran 14 miles this week and 50 since I started running again.  Today I felt a little sick, so I did not push it and did an easy 2 miles.  Have a really busy week ahead including a time series midterm and a huge homework assignment, data mining project proposal, large analysis project at work, QMSS R Seminar presentation on Friday @ Columbia U. Must recover fast.

Day 1, Week 5 of running.  This was the coldest run so far, with 3 miles kicking off the week.  Still a bit of tightness in my right shin.

End of Week 3 of Running

This was a busy running week.  After the Friday 3 mile run in the rain I struggled to put in 2.5 miles on Saturday.  It was extremely humid and after 5th 1/4 mile lap, I had to stop and walk it off.  Walked for 1 lap and ran 2 more.  Not fun.  Sunday was different.  The conditions were not that much better with temperature at 26 (c) and humidity 68%.  I started feeling ok, but quickly gor tired and by the fifth lap I had a similar desire to stop.

But this time I did not and pushed on.  Turns out by the 7th lap, I have stabilized and after finishing 8 laps (2 miles), I decided to go for another 4.  So I was able to cover 3 miles in fairly crappy weather, which feels pretty good (after the fact).  Today was the first time I measured my pace.  Its 11:42 min / mile on average.  Better than I thought.

This week I put in 10.5 miles in total, a personal record.  Sweet.

Week 3, second day of running.  I thought the rain would ruin it, but once again I was wrong.  I realized that it is a lot more fun this way, especially when its warm. There were a few other nut cases on the track, so it was not too lonely.  This was a nice and easy 3 mile run with a fast finish. Temperature was 26 (c) and humidity 96%.  Looking forward to running tomorrow.

First 3 mile run in 2 months

Friday was the first 3 mile run since June 14.  I like running though the cool autumn air.  The temperature was 17 (C) and humidity 43% and despite my allergies I managed more or less ok. At the beginning I was not sure I was going to make the entire 3 miles, but by the 8th lap I decided it was possible, and it turns out it was (coincidence?).  After the 4th lap I felt slight discomfort in my right knee, changed my strike a bit, and by the end of the run it felt fine.  Will try again on Saturday.  Fawkin’ Aye!
